Happy Thanksgiving!

So many reasons to give thanks this year! First and foremost, Eric is back with us! I picked him up from the airport late last night so we were able to spend Thanksgiving together as a family for the first time :)

Also, Logan is now walking - can you believe it?? He finally let go of the furniture (and me) this past weekend and is all on his own now! And in 2 weeks he'll be a year old! He's just growing up so fast...

Time sure does fly by, especially when there's so much keeping us busy. I've only got 3 weeks left of my student teaching so I'm really getting to the point where I'm looking for a job to start in January. And I passed my last certification exam, so once I finish this internship all I have to do is apply to receive my teaching certificate! Seems like it's been a long time coming, but I definitely feel very prepared now.

As we near the holidays, I'm getting the last of the things together for Logan's birthday party, and Eric and I are planning out our trip to Indiana to see family at Christmas. This past year has been busy and tough, but I'm so thankful that we all got through it. I'm so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life!

And now I do believe it's time for a piece of pumpkin pie and some quality play-time with my little boy before bed. Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Happy Halloween!

SO CUTE!!!
Logan the lion (~11 months) with his cousin, Lilliana the tiger (~2 months)

Sunday, October 4, 2009

He's a quick one!

I turned around just long enough to grab a tissue and sneeze and in that short of a time, my boy crawled over and got into the baby powder! Ha!

He's going to be quite a handful in the coming months/years... ;)

It won't be long now...

Ok, so I SINCERELY apologize for not writing an update sooner... Things around here have been crazy lately and I honestly just haven't had the time! Student teaching and my little man are both keeping me very, very busy...

Here are some pictures from:
I took Logan in for his 9-month check-up on September 11th and everything went really well. And I don't know if you can tell in the above picture, but Logan has two teeth now :) He's completely healthy and happy, and here are his new stats:
  • Height: 29 inches (75th percentile)
  • Weight: 20 lb 8 oz (50th percentile)
Our little man had a bit of a growth spurt since his 6-month check-up! He's already wearing 12-month clothing now. Oh, and he's mobile too! Most of what I do when he's awake is chase him around the living room and keep him out of trouble. He's a quick little crawler, and a very good cruiser (he'll walk along holding onto the coffee table or furniture or whatever's available). He's not quite walking all on his own yet, but he's very close!

I've finished my second week of student teaching now and I absolutely love it! I now know that teaching is my true calling. My mentor teacher even told me that I have a natural ability :) I'm still getting to know the students, and I've gotten to teach a couple of lessons too. The only thing that could make the whole experience better would be if I could get paid to do it - but that'll happen soon enough. If I'm lucky, maybe I'll get to start teaching full-time in the spring. At least by then I'll be fully certified :)

Logan's up from his nap, so back to mommy-ing! I can't believe September is almost over - thank goodness the time's flying by! Eric will be home before too much longer :) Take care, everyone!

Our little troublemaker...

Sorry I haven't updated much lately. My little mobile man has been keeping me extremely busy! I've been trying to type up this update for three days now. Just a couple of weeks ago Logan was just learning how to do the army-crawl to get around... Now he's pulling himself up to standing without a problem. These newly acquired skills have also made it possible for him to start getting into trouble, so I can't take my eyes off of him for a second! I can't just sit Logan on the floor while I work anymore because he's getting into things and crawling away from me, and I can't get much done during his naptime either because most naps average about a half hour...

I'm just amazed that I can walk into the kitchen and he'll come crawling after me, or I can set my dinner plate on the coffee table and he'll pull himself up so that he can reach it... I knew this day would come! Won't be long now and he'll be running all over the place... Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it! :)

Another big development in the life of Logan: he's starting to eat real food. I'm talking chunks of banana, peas, cooked carrots... And I've introduced meat into his diet (the baby food kind). He seems to love it. Mommy can't stand the smell of it though!

In other news, I've been accepted as a student teacher in the Mesquite school district so now I'm just waiting to be assigned to a mentor teacher. I'll be a student teacher for 12 weeks and take one more test, and after all that I should be able to get my teaching certification finally :) Maybe the economy will improve a bit and next year I'll be able to get a job - it should definitely be much easier since I'll already be certified.

Eric's doing alright. He has a lot of down time and nothing to do so he's getting bored with just being idle... Luckily his time over there is going to be ending soon. Nothing is ever certain, but he said that he may be home by late October. At the latest, he should be home late November. Both of us are looking forward to being back together again :)

I have some other things to do before Logan wakes up... Oh, and here are some more pictures I have of Logan:
I take Logan in for his 9-month check-up on September 11th, so expect some updated height/weight statistics around that time. ;)

One smart cookie!

He just figured out how to do this and I'm so proud!

video

Now if I can just get him to stop playing so we can go to bed! :)

Sunday, August 9, 2009

Well, he's mobile now...

So cute! He's army-crawling now! My job just got a lot tougher... ;)

Sorry the video is so dark - I had lights on in the house, I swear!

Some favorite (and recent) pictures :)

So in all actuality, Logan just happened to blink when I took the picture. Still, seems very much like a guy to fall asleep on the couch with the remote in his hands... ;)

I bought this for Logan as an impulse buy. Clearly, he loves it!

My little man is pulling himself up to standing now! He loves checking out what all is on the coffee table. Not too much longer and standing is going to turn to walking...

Logan's first tooth came in about a week ago, but I've just now been able to get a picture of it!

This picture just makes me smile :) It's not his best smile, but it's goofy and cute (just like him)!

It's been so long...

...since I've had time to get on my computer and update - sorry!

Eric finally made it back to his base about a week ago (took him about a week to get there once he left here on July 20th). I've talked to him a few times and he's settling back into the rhythm of things there. For a few days he was working 12 hours on, 12 hours off, and trying to get his sleep schedule back to normal (and by "normal" I mean not waking up at 5-5:30 in the morning)... Other than that, he's doing well. He misses Logan (and me too) but I'm still sending him lots of pictures and video everyday!

Oh! Before I forget - DON'T mail Eric anything until I get a new address posted! He said that their post office is closing (as a result of things improving over there) so if you send anything to the old address, there's no telling if it will actually get to him or not. So just hold off on letters and packages for now and if you want to write him, you can send him an email at ericsbreece@gmail.com.

Real quick, other news... Logan cut his first tooth a few days ago (I'll try to get a picture up as soon as possible - gotta wait until there's enough tooth to show and until I can get Logan to open his mouth long enough to take the picture). Also, he pushed himself up onto all fours a couple of days ago, and yesterday he picked up a cereal puff and brought it up to his mouth for the first time! I started laying out some finger foods for him to get used to picking them up and whatnot, and he's getting much better at chewing and eating the little Gerber puffs and yogurt melts. Lots of firsts have happened recently :) Soon he'll be crawling all over and feeding himself... My boy's growing up so fast! He'll be 8 months old in a week!

Mommy gave him a mohawk! Love it :)

Anyways, I need to go... Logan's waking up from his nap, there's laundry to be done, and lunchtime is approaching quickly... Take care, everyone!

Two weeks of leave!

Words can't even describe how amazing the past two weeks were with Eric here - our little family has had quite an adventure! We've spent time together and time apart, time in Texas and time in Indiana, and all of it went by way too fast... But I've got TONS and TONS of pictures and memories :)

Check out ALL of the new pictures!

Logan and I took Eric to the airport yesterday and he boarded his plane around 3:00 p.m. Goodbyes are always hard, and they never seem to get much easier... :( But anyways, early this morning, Eric sent me an email saying that he made it to Germany. I'll be sure to let everyone know when he's back in Iraq. Luckily, he won't be there for too much longer!

I'm staying very busy around here, trying to catch up on laundry and bills and continuing with the job hunt... Logan isn't napping near as often as he used to, so by bedtime we're both exhausted! And I need to get back to work around here now... Everyone take care :)

Where is Eric???

I heard from Eric this morning - he's in Romania. I was planning on going to the airport this morning to pick him up but the automated phone message at DFW said that the incoming R&R flight for today was rescheduled for tomorrow... Bummer. I guess there was a problem with the plane, so they're staying overnight in Bucharest. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing else keeps him away any longer! The waiting is excruciating...

On to other things, though... I reorganized the photos in the web albums to make it easier to keep track of when they're from. There are a bunch of new pictures in the Month 07 album. This one has got to be my new favorite :)

(taken yesterday)

You can click on the links below to see the new albums. (All of the pictures in Month 01 through 06 you've seen before, by the way).
  • Month 07 (June 11, 2009 to present)
  • Month 06 (May 11, 2009 to June 10, 2009)
  • Month 05 (April 11, 2009 to May 10, 2009)
  • Month 04 (March 11, 2009 to April 10, 2009)
  • Month 03 (February 11, 2009 to March 10, 2009)
  • Month 02 (January 11, 2009 to February 10, 2009)
  • Month 01 (December 11, 2008 to January 10, 2009)
Anyways, hopefully tomorrow I can post that Eric's here FINALLY. Until then, everybody take care and have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

Eric's on his way!

I still don't know his arrival time in the states yet, but I talked to Eric a little bit ago and he said that he was on his way to Kuwait tonight and if I don't hear from him when he gets there, it's possible that he's on a plane to come home! So, he may be here July 2nd! I'll be sure to keep everyone updated as I find out anything new - hopefully I've been doing an acceptable job with that so far.

And I'm going to try to post some new pictures of Logan a little later tonight, once I get time at my computer (I'm writing this update from my phone).

Everyone take care, and keep checking back! Eric will be home soon! :)

Happy Father's Day!

One of my absolute favorite pictures :)

Happy Father's Day to all of the daddy's out there! Us mommy's couldn't do it without your love and support, and the kiddos are pretty fond of you too ;)

P.S. Logan gets to see his daddy in about 2 weeks-ish!!!

Just FYI

About a week ago, Eric mentioned that Iraq has their own mail system now (I've been so busy I forgot about it until now) so that means that there's a tiny change in his address. The new one is:

SPC Breece, Eric (medic)
HHC, 2-505th PIR, 3BCT
FOB Loyalty
APO AE 09313-9998

Everything is the same except for one thing. In the old address, the third line was "FOB Loyalty, Iraq." Since they've got their own mail system now, Eric said that if "Iraq" is anywhere in the address there's a chance that it could get mixed up in the Iraqi system and he wants to make sure that he gets all the packages sent to him! ;)

Our busy little life

Sorry I haven't updated much... About two weeks ago, my mom fell at school at got a hairline fracture in her pelvis so she's been laid up since then and I've taken over a lot of her duties around the house here, in addition to taking care of my boy, so I haven't had a lot of time to spend on the computer...

Logan's doing well. We went to his 6-month check up last week. On June 11th he was 16 lb 7 oz and just shy of 27 inches long. A healthy, growing boy! And we've made some progress on solid foods - he's now eating squash, green beans, pears, carrots, bananas, and peas, and he's loved everything! I've gotten video each time we try a new food hoping to capture some sort of face - love it or hate it - and nothing... He just eats it all up though, which is good for me. Maybe he'll be one of those kids who'll eat almost anything!

He really likes carrots!

Logan's also sitting up really well now. He can turn his head to look at things and if he wobbles a little, he'll usually correct his balance on his own. Our issue now is going from sitting to his tummy without falling flat on his face! He'll get it though. And he's making progress with crawling too - he can get both ends working (arms and legs) just not at the same time. It's amusing. He can turn and scoot though, so it won't be long!

Sitting up on his own! :)

He can also hold onto things and briefly support himself!

Eric said he should be here in a few weeks - he's starting to head home on June 28th instead of the 25th. I just hope the weather over there is good and there aren't any delays with flights or anything like last time. I want him home so badly and I want to get him and Logan together! You'd better believe that I'll be taking TONS and TONS of pictures and video while he's here! They're going to have so much fun playing together :)

Speaking of playing, Logan and I have had a lot of fun lately - he's interacting so well now! One of is favorite games is peek-a-boo! It's so cute - he just laughs and laughs and those baby giggles are just infectious! It's impossible not to smile when he's around :) And boy, oh boy, has he gotten vocal! He's making all sorts of noises at all different volumes and pitches! He can "ooh" and "ahh" really well, and he can make the "ma" sound too. I think "la" may be next, what with all the tongue-sticking-out that he's been doing ;)

Anyways, Logan's playing in his jumperoo now but it's almost time for his afternoon bottle so I need to wrap this up...

(I just took this pic)

Still waiting to hear about a job, but I've done just about all I can do now. All the work around the house keeps me busy so I'm not sitting around waiting and worrying, and I'm looking forward to Eric coming home too! Not too much longer! :)

Alrighty, my little boy is talking to me and giggling and it's bottle time. I'll post some more pictures in the web album in the next few days... Take care, all!

We're still alive!

Sorry it's been so long since my last post - we've been BUSY...

My sister has moved back home for the summer, and so has all her stuff! Ha! We've got her boxes and bags and piles of clothes all over the place, not to mention all of the baby's stuff (toys, jumperoo, playmat, etc) so it's a little crowded. Four adults, three dogs, and one baby makes for some hectic times but we're managing.

Logan and I are trying to figure out a new routine (the old one just wasn't working anymore). Since we got back from Indiana, we started working on making the transition from breastmilk to formula now that the little guy is starting to bite. I'm having to get in the habit of making bottles now, which he likes just fine - it's the waiting that makes him unhappy! Logan's also eating more solids now - he's been eating rice cereal for about a month and we just tried squash a few days ago. That went over really well so tomorrow we'll try green beans. Introducing all of these new foods is quite a slow process (three days in a row with a new food before we can move on to another) since we have to wait a few days to see if there's any signs of allergies, but within a month he will have tried all the basic fruits and veggies!

After dinner :)

My little boy is just growing up so fast! He's sitting much better on his own now - still bobbles every now and then, especially if he looks to the side, but for the most part he can sit unassisted for a few minutes at a time.

Sitting up like a big boy!

Logan is reaching for EVERYTHING now so we'll be baby-proofing the house soon. I've got to be careful wearing earrings around him now - he grabbed one of mine this morning and almost yanked it out!

How's my husband? Tired... I talked to him yesterday for a little bit and he said that he's been working really long days, but he's really looking forward to coming home on leave. He should start his journey home in about 3 weeks (leave where he is now and start making his way out of the country, that is). I'll let everyone know when exactly he'll be home, but I may not know that for sure until the day he gets here, so we'll see.

I still don't have any leads on a job... I'm emailing a bunch of principals this week so that they'll have all my info if anything opens up over the summer, so keep your fingers crossed it does! And I've got to start studying soon - I'm taking another certification test at the end of this month (English as a Second Language - ESL). If I pass it, it should improve my chances of getting hired since so many students nowadays (here, anyway) aren't always fluent in English.

What else? Logan and I have gotten out of the house some lately. We went and saw my friend, Jennifer, and her little girl (Ally). Ally's only about 11 weeks old now, but they played well together. Logan's curiousity had him watching her and reaching out to explore this other little moving person. It was very cute!

Ally and Logan

He was quite curious...

Hehe it looks like she slugged him! (she didn't though)

They were cute :)

Gonna hold hands! Adorable!

We also have gone to visit my cousin, Jill, a couple of times too. She's going to have her baby in September and her husband is going to Afghanistan in October, I think (he's in the National Guard). I'm trying to do what I can for emotional support since I'm a deployment veteran now and this will be the first one she's had to deal with. Military wives have to stick together, you know? No one else really understands all that we go through. Like I've told Eric before, it's hard but in the end I can't imagine spending my life with anyone else. He makes it all worth it. :)

Anyways, I can't think of much else right now but I know there was more to tell... Oh! More pictures. LOTS more pictures. CLICK HERE! Here are some of my favorites...

Logan and me at Kimber's wedding

Sportin' some shades like a big boy!

He'll hate me for this pic when he's older, but it's too dang cute!

Happy boy :)

Tongue!

That's it, I think. Logan should be waking up from his nap any minute now so I oughtta go - laundry to do and dishes to clean. A mommy's work is never done! ;)

We're on our way!

In a couple of hours we'll be on our way to Springfield - stop #1 on this little trip of ours. Hopefully the weather is good and Logan sleeps a lot in the car on the way. Good or bad, this is sure to be an adventure for us both... Anyways, here's a cute pic to start your day ;)

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

We leave tomorrow!

I'm busy busy busy today doing laundry and packing and trying to get all this last-minute trip stuff out of the way because we hit the road tomorrow! We should get to Lafayette Friday around dinnertime-ish hopefully (7ish maybe?)...

Anyways, I just had to post this picture real quick because it makes me smile :)

Back to work! I'll see a lot of y'all real soon!

Happy Mother's Day!

First of all, happy Mother's Day to all you mommas out there! We had a nice, relaxing day here today. My grandparents came over for lunch, and then Logan and I napped on the couch afterward while everyone else watched golf on tv. It was a good day :)

Not much to report other than our little boy turns 5 months old tomorrow! Can you believe it? 5 months old already!

Also, Logan, my sister, and I will be up in Indiana this weekend. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Anyways, it's time for me to get back to Logan - a mommy's work never ends, you know ;)

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

He'll be 5 months old in a week!

Logan's been sucking on his fingers a TON lately... What's funny is that he doesn't just suck on a finger or two, he tries to get his whole fist in his mouth! It wouldn't surprise me if we see our first tooth coming in before too long - between 4 and 6 months is usually when babies cut their first teeth, and he'll be 5 months old in a week! Time is just going so fast, isn't it?

I started Logan on rice cereal a little over a week ago and he's taken to it great! He gets cereal once a day now and he loves it. He still chomps down on the spoon a few times before it's all the way in his mouth, but he's figuring it out ;)

Before dinner...

During...

...And after.

I never realized that motherhood would be this amazing! He is such a good little boy with such a fun little personality. I've been blessed with so much - a loving and supportive family, an incredible husband (who is too far away), and the cutest, happiest little baby... Life's good. :)

A few firsts...

First of all, I love the funny faces that this boy makes! He cracks me up! My personal favorite is the one on the bottom right ;)

Sorry it's been so long since the last entry on here... Logan got his first cold about a week ago. And then mommy got it, then Papaw, and Gammie got it too... So it's been a week full of runny/stuffy noses and coughing over here, but we've all been resting, me and Logan especially. Logan seems to be doing fine now, just a little leftover runny nose - but that doesn't get in the way of him being a happy little baby :)

Logan's laughing now, and smiling, and "talking" (more than cooing), and he's just so much fun to be around! He's just absolutely curious about everything now - anything new within his reach and he's got his hands on it. One of his favorite new things to play with is a ziploc-bag full of Fruit Loops (or some other cereal - Fruit Loops are the colorful option). He also loves looking at my cell phone and running his hands over the buttons!

Oh! I gave Logan his first bites of rice cereal a few days ago! I don't think he was too hot about the flavor of it, but he did a good job eating with a spoon :) Today at lunch he got a little bit of cereal after he nursed, and he decided he wanted to help me - every time the spoon got near him, he'd wrap both of his hands around the handle of it and hold on while I put it in his mouth. Very cute. He's going to be an independent one, I can tell. He likes to try to do things on his own already, but mommy's there to help because he just hasn't developed the fine motor skills to handle it yet. ;)

Anyways, Logan just woke up from his nap so I've gotta go... Real quick though, I uploaded a BUNCH of new pictures into the web album, so here's the LINK to check 'em out. :)

Busy, busy, busy...

Logan's checking out his new toy the Easter Bunny left him :)

I hope everyone had a happy Easter! We didn't do a whole lot over here. My grandparents came over for lunch on Sunday, but that was about it. Oh! I did make some Easter egg cupcakes though! My grandmother gave me this book - Hello, Cupcake! - and in it they have all sorts of creative cupcake ideas and techniques so you can do them too, so I took a chance and made some... They didn't turn out quite like the ones in the book, but I think they were cute - and tasty! It took forever though! I ended up with 12 decorated cupcakes after almost 3 hours of work... I used them in the Easter-themed centerpiece on the dining room table :)

I like arranging things. It may seem strange, but I think I have a natural talent for it. I've also made some flower arrangements for my mom that turned out looking really professional. Organizing is fun too, and I love office supplies - folders, planners, that sort of thing... I'm just really a very type-A personality, I suppose. But anyways, moving on...

I took Logan to the pediatrician on Monday for his 4-month check-up and boy, has he grown! He now weighs 14 lb 7 oz (in the 48th percentile) and is 26.25 inches long (the 90th percentile - he grew 3 inches in 2 months!). The doctor talked to me about introducing solids into his diet, so we'll probably start that some time this next month. Logan got 3 shots while he was there, poor thing, but he did well. He cried when he got them, but calmed down really quickly afterward. There weren't any problems except for a little bit of fever the next day, but a little tylenol helped to clear that up pretty fast. Other than that, the little guy is doing amazing! He rolled over onto his side from his back today (I could tell he wanted to make it onto his tummy, but he just didn't have enough power behind the roll yet). And he's sitting up with support from whoever is holding him, and during tummy time I can tell his upper body is getting stronger every day. Oh, and have I mentioned that he's now drooling like crazy?? I have a feeling we'll be seeing some teeth in that little mouth of his soon... ;)

Before I forget, I've made hotel reservations for our (me, Logan, and Hannah) trip up to Indiana for Kimber's wedding... We'll get to Indiana Friday evening (May 15th), the wedding is Saturday, we'll see Eric's dad's side of the family Sunday and start our trip back to Springfield, Missouri (where my sister goes to school) that night. To make the trip back home a little easier, we'll drive about halfway to Springfield on Sunday and drive the rest of the way there Monday... It's going to be A LOT of driving (about 2000 miles round trip) so I'm not planning on going anywhere in my car for a while once we're finally back home. It'll be nice to see everyone though - and let everyone see Logan :)

I've been getting everything ready for another job fair this Saturday - polishing up my resume, filling out applications and getting paperwork together, picking out a professional outfit... Oh, and once I complete one more assignment, I will have all of my certification coursework complete! So basically that means that all I'm waiting on will be getting hired :)

New pictures of Logan are posted HERE.

Quick funny story about the boy: So when I lay Logan down for bed (or naps), I lay him in his positioner to keep him from rolling all around his crib. I put him down for a nap about a week ago with his head up at the right side of the picture (by the bird on the bumper). I turned on the baby monitor, and went and did some work on the computer. Less than 2 hours later I hear him starting to make some noise so I go in there to check on him, and am VERY surprised to find that he had managed to rotate himself 90 degrees clockwise in his crib... I walked up to his crib and there he was looking at me, upside-down... Silly little boy. I don't quite know how he did it, but it made his mommy laugh. :)

I have a lot I need to do the next couple of days (laundry and other chores, making copies of my resume, errands, etc.) so I need to get to bed and get a good night's sleep. Goodnight y'all :)
